Special meeting of the AI Scientific Panel on loss-of-control incidents involving AI

On 9 October 2026 the Commission is holding a special meeting of the Scientific Panel on artificial intelligence. The Scientific Panel has been investigating recent loss-of-control incidents involving AI and, together with the AI Office, has prepared a set of questions for the companies that developed the models involved. At the meeting it is to present recommendations to the Commission on the safety and security risks of the most advanced AI models. Executive Vice-President of the Commission Henna Virkkunen is attending the meeting.

The Scientific Panel, established under Article 68 of the AI Act, brings together 60 independent experts. It advises the AI Office and national authorities on systemic risks, model classification, evaluation methodologies and cross-border market surveillance.
