Poland's law implementing the AI Act has taken effect: KRiBSI supervision, fines from 28 October

The core part of Poland's Act on Artificial Intelligence Systems of 3 July 2026 (Journal of Laws 2026, item 1003) takes effect in Poland today. The Act creates the national framework for applying the EU AI Act. Its entry into effect is staggered across several dates. The provisions on inspections, infringement proceedings, administrative fines and the criminal provisions will take effect on 28 October 2026.

The market surveillance authority and single point of contact is the newly established Commission for the Development and Security of Artificial Intelligence (KRiBSI). The Act sets its composition at seven members; its chair is appointed by the Sejm with the consent of the Senate for a five-year term. Since 11 August, the legal framework for regulatory sandboxes has also been in effect; under the commission's supervision, the sandboxes are to support the testing of AI and the achievement of compliance with the requirements of the AI Act.
