European Parliament approves the Digital Omnibus on AI and adds a ban on nudifier apps

The European Parliament gave its final approval to the Digital Omnibus on AI, a package of targeted amendments to the AI Act (423 in favour, 57 against, 174 abstentions). The application of obligations for high-risk AI systems is postponed: to 2 December 2027 for stand-alone systems and to 2 August 2028 for systems embedded as a safety component of a product and covered by sectoral law. The marking of AI-generated content is also delayed (to 2 December 2026), and AI systems generating child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and non-consensual intimate content, so-called nudifier apps, are newly prohibited; providers and deployers must bring their AI systems into compliance by 2 December 2026. The changes now await formal adoption by the Council.
